Scaring is the body's natural response to injury. Scars will always go through a process of change. Sometimes scars get stuck in a phase of inflammation which can lead to poorer aesthetic looking scars.

There are some situations where surgery can improve the appearance of a scar, however surgery can never fully remove the presence of a scar.
To improve the aesthetic appearance, along with any functional restriction the scar might have caused. Revision surgery will still leave a scar.
After healing, applying pressure to the new scar in the form of massage can help reduce the appearance of the scar over time.
Anyone with a large unsightly scar where reconstructive plastic surgery may improve the scar's appearance:
Keyloid scar
Hypertrophic scar
With scar revision surgery you are replacing one scar for hopefully a better scar.
In terms of how the new scar will heal and fade over time, everyone is different and the appearance will depend on skin tone, elasticity and how your skin heals. Careful post-operative management can help improve the result as well as daily scar self-massage.
I perform all of my operations at leading London hospitals with full emergency care available. As with any surgical procedure, it's essential to discuss risks Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor so you are fully informed of what you are undertaking.
While most patients experience no significant complications, potential risks include:
Post-operative infection is rare but generally treated easily with antibiotics.
Bleeding after surgery can lead to a haematoma which might need further surgery to manage.
All surgery causes scarring. Scars generally fade to a thin white line but rarely patients can develop raised red scars, such as hypertrophic or keloid scars. The tighter the scar revision the more likely poorer scarring.
Scar revisions might not give you the aesthetic outcome you want.
