After Weight Loss

Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty

The Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty or FDL is a powerful option when you have significant laxity both above and below the belly button. It is generally reserved for patients who have lost large amounts of weight and often forms the first step of a total body contouring operative plan.

This is a technically challenging operation to get right and best in the hands of a surgeon such as Mr Fitzgerald O'Connor who performs it on a regular basis.

Scarring

In terms of scarring, in procedures like this there is a trade off between the size of scars and tightness of the skin. The tighter the skin the longer the scar.

The scar for an FDL abdominoplasty is typically vertical, from the bottom of the rib cage to the groin and horizontal, from hip to hip low down in the pant line.

In terms of how the scars will heal and fade over time, everyone is different and the appearance will depend on skin tone, elasticity and how your skin heals.

Recovery

A FDL abdominoplasty is not a minor procedure so you should understand the recovery process and the preparations in your daily life that may be required to help you through it.

Recovery is similar to a standard or extended abdominoplasty.

All my patients have 24/7 direct access to a specialist plastics nurse who is on hand to offer advice, answer any questions or deal with any concerns that may arise.
