Skin cancer tumours generally require surgical excision, but can be treated medically with creams in some low risk situations.
At an outpatient appointment I can make an assessment of your skin lesion and discuss your options.
If you are happy for a excision there and then, I can administer local anaesthetic to the area and cut out the skin leison.
The tissue that is removed is sent away for analysis which generally takes around 7 to 10 days to be completed. Patients are brought back to clinic around 7 to 14 days after surgery to discuss the results and check how the wound is healing.
The scar will, in general, only ever be the same length as the skin lesion removed.
In terms of how the scars will heal and fade over time, everyone is different and the appearance will depend on skin tone, elasticity and how your skin heals.
Simple dressings will be supplied if necessary.
You can return to work the same day.
Avoid any strenuous activity.
Sometimes stitches that need to come out are used. Stitches can be removed five to seven days after the surgery.
A followup consultation around 1 -2 weeks after surgery.

Superficial infections may occur but are generally treatable with simple antibiotics.
Rare collections of blood under the skin may require surgical intervention and this will be done at no extra cost.
